An acrostic poem is a way to show what you know about a particular character or word.  You might not think of it as poetry because it does not rhyme, but poetry does not always have to rhyme.

Before you begin, make a list of all the things you know about the character or item (use adjectives / verbs).

Choose a character’s name or word. Use each letter in the name as the beginning of a word or line that tells something about that person, character or word.  Below are two examples using the words LOVE and EGGS.

What constitutes beauty, and how important is the way a person looks?  Every individual has his or her own perception of beauty.  For some, true beauty is a svelte figure, almond-shaped eyes, full lips, a straight nose, and long legs.  For some , true beauty is love and forgiveness, purity, humility, honesty, and grace.

Some things in life take hard work to achieve, like intelligence.  It stays with you for the duration of your life.  Physical beauty is something you are either born with or pay a lot of money to attain.  It soons fades away and you need to open up another door.

Extreme makeovers, botox injections, and plastic surgery are on the rise.  Many people are taking extraordinary measures to attain this "ideal beauty".  These are all shortcuts taken to create happiness with a scalpel, a diet, or an implant.  Remember beautiful people are not always happy people!

So I ask you the question, what is true beauty?  Who or What do you think is beautiful in your eyes?

What will you do?

I think that many problems need to be fixed in our environment.  I also think it's
each and everyone's responsibility to do something about it.

I plan to conserve water and not use so much paper.  Hopefully if we all pitch in and do a little we will make a difference.

What do you plan on doing?

We have come a long way since the stone wheel, cave homes and dinosaurs.....So, let's take a look at some "things" that may have made this planet of ours a different place: Events, incidents, discoveries, inventions and so on.  There is no doubt that the invention of the wheel facilitated such vital developments as transport, and travel, but there must be more factors that have contributed too.

I ask you to think of inventions and discoveries that have changed the world, for the better or for the worse.  The list of items is potentially infinite but choose ones that you feel have made  significant contributions to the change of our world and explain the reasons for your decisions.

I got these:

for the better: the engine, glasses, the mop, x-rays, etc.......

for the worse: pollution, bombs, weapons, etc......

In addition, what specific inventions and developments have changed your life? and why?

Every year, thousands of people around the world are killed due to earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, twisters, avalanches, floods and other natural disasters, but are these really ‘disasters’? What makes these natural occurrences disastrous? Is it us? These occurrences have always been there, haven’t they? How come they seem more devastating now than ever before? Can you think of what human beings might be doing to make natural disasters more fatal and cruel?

When we are little, we are always faced with some adult asking us "what are you going to be when you grow up?"  I remember when I was 8 or 9 years old, my cousin John David asked me this question and I told him I was going to be an actress.  After laughing at me  for five minutes, he then replied that there is no money in acting.  Of course, in those days, even Hollywood stars weren't bring in millions of dollars per picture.  My dream of being an actress hasn't really wained over the years-I  guess that's why I love teaching ESL so much.  It allows me to use the very dramatic part of my personality while still providing an intellectual challenge.   After I graduated from university , my cousin again asked me what I was going to be when I grew up and this time I told him a teacher.  He still laughed at my career choice and reiterated that there was no money to be made in teaching as there wasn't in acting and this time I told him I didn't care.  You see, my cousin is a very successful buisness man who works 22 hour days , 364 days a year.  He makes tons of money but never has time to enjoy it.   I don't  understand  the point of making money if you can't use it .

Tell me what you want to be when you grow up and why.  Do you want to be a teacher, a buisnessman or woman, a famous actress, an Olympic athelete, a mother or father?  If your dream job has changed over the years tell me how and why it has changed.
